What Is a Stock Ledger Report in Odoo?

In accounting, a ledger shows every transaction affecting a balance, debit, credit, and running total. A stock ledger applies the same principle to your warehouse inventory. Every goods receipt, every delivery, every internal transfer gets its own row, along with a cumulative balance that updates after each movement.

Odoo's standard inventory module gives you current stock levels and basic move reports, but it doesn't give you the full chronological, line-by-line ledger view that auditors, warehouse managers, and business owners need for real inventory control. That's the gap this module fills.

The Daily Odoo Stock Ledger Report module by Ahex Technologies adds a dedicated Inventory → Reporting → Stock Ledger menu that generates a clean, date-filtered report for any product — with opening balance, every in and OUT movement, and a running balance column throughout.

Key Features at a Glance

Complete Movement History

Every stock move in your date range, in chronological order.

Automatic Opening Balance

Opening stock calculated from all prior movements automatically.

Colour-Coded IN / OUT

Green for incoming, red for outgoing, scannable at a glance.

Running Balance Column

Balance recalculates after every transaction automatically.

Source & Destination Tracking

See where stock moved from and to on every single line.

Smart Date Range Wizard

Pre-filled last month. Adjust dates, hit Generate, done.

How the Report Looks: A Sample Ledger

Below is an example of the Stock Ledger Report output for a single product. Each row is one completed stock movement. The balance column is cumulative, it never resets within the report period.

DateFromToINOUTBalance
Opening Balance100 units
01 Apr 2025SuppliersWH/Stock+50150 units
05 Apr 2025WH/StockCustomers −30120 units
12 Apr 2025WH/StockCustomers −8040 units
28 Apr 2025SuppliersWH/Stock +2060 units

This format is familiar to anyone who has used a bank statement, and that familiarity is intentional. Stock reconciliation, audit preparation, and discrepancy investigation all become dramatically faster when data is presented this way.

Installation

The report is available immediately under Inventory → Reporting

How to Use It

Step-by-Step

Navigate to Stock Ledger

Go to Inventory → Reporting → Stock Ledger. The Date Filter Wizard opens automatically.

Set your date range

The wizard pre-fills the previous full calendar month. Adjust From and To dates as needed, then click Generate.

Browse the product list

A filtered product list opens with your date range stored in context. Search or scroll to the product you want to analyse.

Click "View Ledger"

Click the blue View Ledger button on any product row. The system calculates the opening balance and loads all completed movements.

Read and export your ledger

The report displays every stock movement with colour-coded IN/OUT indicators and a running Balance column for the full period.

Balance Calculation: Transparent and Auditable

The running balance uses a straightforward cumulative formula that any auditor or accountant will immediately understand:

Balance

=

Opening Balance

+

Incoming

-

Outgoing

The opening balance is calculated from all stock movements prior to the selected From date. This means even if you run the report for a single day, the opening balance will correctly reflect the entire stock history up to that point — not just the previous period's closing balance

Only movements in Done state are included. Draft transfers, cancelled moves, and pending receipts are excluded, so the ledger reflects only what physically happened in your warehouse.

Why Choose This Over a Custom Report?

Building a custom stock ledger report in Odoo from scratch requires understanding the stock.move model, handling the opening balance calculation (which involves aggregating all historical moves), correctly excluding draft and cancelled states, and building a usable wizard interface. This is typically 2–5 days of development work for an experienced Odoo developer.

At $ 19.02 for a proven, tested module that installs in minutes, the ROI is immediate — even if you only use it once to resolve a single inventory discrepancy.

Maintained by Ahex Technologies, with a track record of clean, lightweight modules. With just 201 lines of code it remains easy to audit and customise if your business ever needs extensions.

The report only includes movements in “Done” state. If no completed movements exist within your selected date range, the ledger will show only the opening balance with no transaction rows.

Odoo’s built-in reporting shows current quantities and summarised moves. The Stock Ledger Report shows every individual transaction in chronological order with a running balance — the equivalent of a bank statement versus just a bank balance.

Yes. The opening balance is calculated from all historical “Done” movements before your selected start date, going all the way back to the product’s first receipt in the system.
